Where the results come from and how every number on the site is calculated.
Every number published here starts from the official result of a draw. LotAssist does not create or change results: it records what the source publishes and calculates indicators from that record.
The draws, the winning numbers and the prize breakdown come from the Caixa Econômica Federal Lotteries Portal, the official source of results. Part of the older history was loaded from the results spreadsheets that Caixa itself makes available.
Powerball and Mega Millions results come from the open data of the State of New York (data.ny.gov), which publishes the draws of these lotteries.
Frequencies, delays, averages, probabilities and the other indicators are calculated by LotAssist from those results. Caixa and the other bodies do not take part in these calculations or endorse them.
Results are fetched automatically, on a regular schedule, after the draws. There can therefore be a gap between the draw and its record here; each lottery page states the period it covers and the home page shows the latest recorded draw.
If any figure differs from the official result, the official result prevails. Error reports are welcome at [email protected], with the lottery and the draw number.
The definitions below apply to every statistics page. In the per-number statistics only the main draw is counted; in Dupla Sena the second draw is handled separately.
A number's frequency is how many times it was drawn in the recorded draws. The expected frequency is the number of draws multiplied by the quantity of numbers drawn per draw and divided by the total numbers in the lottery: what you would see if every number had the same chance. The deviation shows, as a percentage, how far the actual frequency is from that reference.
It is how many draws have passed since the number last came out. The longest delay and the average delay use the whole recorded history.
It compares the frequency over the last 50 draws with the frequency expected for that window. A number is marked hot when it came out at least 20% above expectation and cold when it came out at least 20% below. It describes the recent period; it is not a signal about the next draw.
A cycle closes when every number in the lottery has come out at least once since the cycle began. The site shows how many cycles have closed, the average length and which numbers are still missing in the open cycle.
The historical average of each indicator is its arithmetic mean over all recorded draws of the lottery. A draw's indicators are: the count of even and odd numbers; of prime numbers; of Fibonacci numbers (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 and 89); of multiples of 3; the sum of the numbers; the largest gap (the biggest difference between two neighbouring numbers once sorted); and the longest run (the largest group of consecutive numbers, such as 12-13-14).
The chance of each prize tier is calculated combinatorially: the number of combinations that reach the tier divided by the total number of possible combinations. There is no simulation or estimate, and the result holds for any game, whether or not it came out in the past.
It adds up, across all tiers, the probability multiplied by the prize and divides by the cost of the bet. Because the published amount is the tier's total, it is divided by the number of winners the tier usually has. The result is always below 1: the lottery pays out less than it collects.
Each popular belief is compared with what chance alone would produce, calculated by formula rather than simulation. A verdict is only given when the difference exceeds the normal fluctuation of a sample of that size, and the result is published as it comes out, including when it confirms the belief.
They all describe the past. Each draw is independent of the previous one and every combination has the same chance in every draw, so no indicator predicts the next result or changes the probability of a game.
